Meyer Middle School Remodel« Return to Project Search
As one of the oldest schools in the River Falls School District, Meyer Middle School lacked modernization in its media center and science labs. Ayres’ architectural and interior designers worked with district officials to completely overhaul these areas.
The media center was transformed from a traditional library into a multi-functional space where students (and staff, visitors, and parents) want to spend their time. New furniture, finishes, technology, lighting, and carefully programmed zones have given the media center new life. Two flanking classrooms were remodeled into breakout spaces that open into the media center and can be used by grade-level teachers for special activities.
The outdated science labs were gutted of their built-in lab tables and replaced with wide-open space for mobile lab tables and stools that can be configured for each day’s activities. New casework lines the back wall while two projectors along an expansive teaching wall provide separate zones for daily tasks. Each teacher is equipped with a demo station, which is the only stationary feature in the room.
Other improvements include upgrades to the auditorium lighting; new auditorium seating; new carpet in all the classrooms, administrative office, and guidance suite; paint and signage in each classroom wing for better wayfinding; installation of building-wide air conditioning; a parking lot redesign for safer circulation and student drop-off; tennis/pickle ball court replacement; and site drainage improvements.
