Take a Look Around You; Chances Are, an Engineer Had a Hand in That

PosterFinalWe’re in the mood to celebrate at Ayres Associates this week. For starters, it’s National Engineers Week!

Ayres Associates has been providing engineering services to public and private clients since our founding in 1959. Today we have 98 registered professional engineers on staff, and they love to solve problems and make stuff work.

The image above, shared by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Wisconsin (ACEC WI), shows the impact engineers have on all our lives. Do you like clean water, reliable sewer systems, safe and efficient roads and bridges and dams, well-managed traffic, and so many more services we often take for granted? Then thank an engineer!

We have a whole week of blog posts planned to celebrate engineers and their contributions to our daily lives. Check back every day this week for a look at today’s engineering! Here’s the lineup:

  • Tuesday: Helping students make strong towers out of balsa wood and glue.
  • Wednesday: Boy Scouts making paper bridges.
  • Thursday: Scouting for future bridge inspectors at a career fair.
  • Friday: Ayres interns get hired permanently and rise as high as vice president.

We have another reason to be pumped about our engineer-ness this week: We’re proud to announce that one of our environmental projects has won a 2015 Engineering Excellence State Finalist Award from ACEC WI. The award-winning Carroll University Student Living and Business Center redevelopment project transformed a blighted, run-down area of Waukesha, Wisconsin, into a thriving student housing complex. In addition to increasing on-campus living options, the undertaking has also reduced local crime rates and improved health and safety. ACEC WI will recognize the project at its March 20 awards banquet in Kohler, Wisconsin. Click here for more information on the project.

And for ideas on how to promote careers in engineering among young people, check out a ton of Engineers Week resources here.
