After more than two decades with Ayres Associates, Eric Sorensen, PE, has been named vice president of Midwest transportation operations. Sorensen will oversee transportation and traffic engineering and construction services in Ayres’ Waukesha, Madison, Green Bay, and Eau Claire, Wisconsin, offices. Since joining our transportation engineering staff in 1995, Sorensen has steadily advanced his career from his work as a design engineer to his current role as a transportation supervisor. Sorensen, based in Eau Claire, assumes his new duties on January 1, 2017.

Sorensen has mastered both the technical and social elements of challenging projects, enabling him to coordinate large and small projects to completion on time and within budget. He is skilled in reaching out to the public on complex projects and has experience facilitating ad hoc, citizens advisory, and property owner meetings.

“Eric has done an exceptional job over the years helping to formulate new approaches to project management and applying those to large-scale projects,” says Bruce Ommen, PE, executive vice president. “Now he has the opportunity to use those skills and his vision to set a course for the transportation division.”

Sorensen has managed several major Wisconsin Department of Transportation projects, including the Interstate 90/U.S. 53/Highway 35 interchange at La Crosse and the U.S. 51/County U/County K/Business 51 interchange at Wausau, as well as dozens of county highway projects across much of Wisconsin.

Sorensen is a registered professional engineer in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Arizona, Georgia, and Florida. He has a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Minnesota. He is a member of the American Council of Engineering Companies.
