Emily Smith PortraitElectrical engineering staff member Emily Smith has been promoted to the classification of professional 4 at Ayres as she progresses closer to the role of project management. Already providing some supervision of other employee owners, Smith will provide more oversight of others in her new role.

Based in St. Paul, Minnesota, Smith designs power distribution, lighting, fire alarms, and basic low voltage systems for healthcare, education, retail, commercial, municipal, and residential clients.

Smith finds motivation in using thoughtful design to impact communities. She brings diverse technical skills, integrity, and communication and organizational skills to her electrical design work. Smith approaches her designs from the perspective of a team – the client, users, architect, and engineers working together to create spaces that go beyond code requirements and truly make a daily difference. That often involves pairing beauty and practicality.
Smith is skilled in using Revit MEP to complete modeling, document management, and coordination, and she also uses SKM, AGI, and Visual software.

“We appreciate Emily’s willingness to train, develop, and supervise other staff,” says Anthony Basden, PE, LEED AP BD+C, who is electrical discipline leader within the MEP Division. “Her promotion will require more of this as we transition her to designing and leading her own electrical projects.”

Smith holds bachelor’s degrees in architectural engineering (concentration in building electrical systems) and construction management from the Milwaukee School of Engineering.
