University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Steam Loop Extension

Ayres provided civil, mechanical, and electrical services associated with a new steam and condensate loop from Phillips Hall to Garfield Avenue on the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s lower campus. The project involved:

  • Removal of the existing steam and condensate pipes and tunnels from Phillips Hall to Schofield Hall.

  • Construction of a new concrete box conduit from Phillips Hall to Garfield Avenue, approximately 750 linear feet.

  • Addition of two steam pits and remodeling of two steam pits. The new pits are east of Schofield Hall and west of Centennial Hall, the new education building.

  • Coordination with the project team for the new Davies Center construction project, the subsequent demolition of the old Davies Center, and the new education building project.

  • Removal of two abandoned utility pits near McIntyre Library and Schofield Hall.

  • Access and interior improvements for the utility pit at the base of the Chippewa River footbridge.

  • Demolition of direct buried piping and two steam pits from Schofield Hall to Zorn Arena.

Services included topographic survey, geotechnical information, utility locates, a Chapter 30 environmental permit application, civil design, and construction phase services.
