Transportation Veteran Joins Ayres’ Raleigh Office

Hemang Surti, PE, has joined Ayres as a senior project manager and traffic engineer in the firm’s Raleigh office, bringing more than 30 years of transportation engineering experience and extensive knowledge of North Carolina’s transportation market.

As Ayres’ first transportation team member based in North Carolina, Surti will support the firm’s transportation growth initiatives throughout the state while providing traffic engineering expertise across the company. His responsibilities include business development, client relationship management, project delivery, and transportation planning and design services.

“Adding someone with Hemang’s experience and reputation is a significant step forward for our transportation growth strategy in North Carolina,” said Troy Robillard, PE, manager of transportation services. “Over the past three decades, he has contributed to transportation and traffic projects across several states while building strong relationships throughout the industry. We’re excited to have him help expand our presence in the state and support clients throughout the Southeast.”

Surti joins Ayres following a career that includes 14 years with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and leadership roles with private-sector firms throughout the Southeast. He has extensive experience in traffic signal design, transportation planning, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), project management, and business development.

A graduate of North Carolina State University with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Surti is a licensed professional engineer in North Carolina, Georgia, South Carolina, and Virginia. He is an active member of the American Society of Highway Engineers, the American Council of Engineering Companies, and the North Carolina Section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers.

Throughout his career, Surti has designed and reviewed more than 750 traffic signals and managed a variety of transportation projects for state and local agencies. His background includes developing comprehensive transportation plans, leading traffic engineering teams, cultivating client relationships, and supporting business development efforts.

“I’m excited to join Ayres and help build on the firm’s momentum in North Carolina,” Surti said. “With more than 30 years in the transportation industry, I’ve had the opportunity to develop strong relationships across the state and gain experience in both the public and private sectors. I look forward to putting that experience to work for Ayres, supporting our clients, and helping grow our transportation services throughout the region.”

Surti will be based in Raleigh, where he will work closely with transportation professionals across the company while helping strengthen Ayres’ relationships with NCDOT, municipalities, and other transportation clients.
