New Electrical Discipline Lead Strengthens Minnesota MEP Team
Abdel Elkhatib, PE, has joined Ayres as electrical discipline lead for the Minnesota group within the firm’s Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) division, bringing a strong mix of technical expertise, leadership experience, and client-focused service to the role.
Elkhatib will lead the electrical engineering team in Minnesota, guiding technical design efforts, supporting quality assurance and quality control, and fostering strong relationships with clients and project partners. Known for his attention to detail and commitment to high-quality outcomes, he is focused on delivering reliable, efficient electrical solutions while helping elevate the capabilities of the team.

That mindset positions him well to lead our electrical team and deliver value to our clients.”
Elkhatib’s background spans both consulting and contracting environments, giving him a well-rounded understanding of projects from design through construction. He has designed electrical systems for commercial and industrial facilities, from large distribution centers to EV charging infrastructure, and brings specialized expertise in power system analysis and arc flash studies.
In previous roles Elkhatib advanced quickly into project management, earning recognition for both his technical work and his ability to build lasting client relationships. He is experienced in collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and is committed to delivering projects that meet client goals while maintaining a high standard of quality.
In his new role Elkhatib will focus on supporting existing clients while helping expand opportunities for electrical services across Ayres’ multidisciplinary practice.
Elkhatib holds professional engineer licensure in Minnesota as well as California, Texas, and Ohio. He earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Minnesota State University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of the Cumberlands. He is also a certified Revit professional, demonstrating advanced proficiency in design and modeling tools.
