Accolades Continue for Picturesque Courtney Campbell Bridge

Courtney Campbell Bridge 12-13 (17)The Ayres-designed Courtney Campbell Multiuse Trail Bridge continues to attract attention. The 3,258-foot-long pedestrian bridge, which runs adjacent to the busy Courtney Campbell Causeway in Florida, is the cover story in the current edition of the American Society of Highway Engineers’ newsletter, the ASHE Scanner. The bridge provides a safe route from Clearwater to Tampa, Florida, a vital link in the local trail system, and it delivers breathtaking views of the scenic area from strategically placed lookout points. And the awards also continue. The project earned an Award of Excellence in the Hillsborough County Planning Commission’s 32nd annual Planning & Design Awards program last fall. Presented by TECO (Tampa Electric and Peoples Gas), the program honors the best in planning and design in Hillsborough County. Winners were announced at a ceremony in Tampa. The photo below shows Hisham Sunna, vice president of Ayres Associates, presenting the award to our client, Florida Department of Transportation District 7, represented by Lee Royal, left, government liaison administrator, and Debbie Hunt, the District’s director of transportation development.

The trophy case for this project also contains a Grand Award from the 2014 Florida Institute of Consulting Engineers’ Engineering Excellence Awards and a National Recognition Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies’ 2014 Engineering Excellence Awards.DSC03813_Cropped
