Groundwater Study & Underdrain Design for Proposed Development

« Return to Project Search

Ayres was hired to provide a groundwater study and underdrain design for a proposed mixed-use development in Fort Collins, Colorado. The majority of the development is to comprise single-family homes, with the rest designated for commercial and light industrial uses. The homes will have basements, and the high groundwater in the area requires an underdrain system to mitigate what would otherwise be significant basement moisture issues.

The project involves first custom-designing the well installation specifications for the site-specific subsurface conditions, and then testing for hydraulic conductivity and groundwater quality. The conductivity data then informs the scale and configuration of underdrain facilities needed to keep the groundwater table low enough through discharge of groundwater flows to Boxelder Creek southeast of the Colorado Welcome Center rest area.
