After beginning her professional engineering career at Ayres and then spending decades at the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Brenda Schoenfeld, PE, has returned to Ayres to manage the Waukesha transportation group.

Schoenfeld uses positive reinforcement and a gratitude leadership style to boost productivity and collaboration. Her skilled mentoring has helped transform recently promoted engineers into respected leaders and project managers.

Schoenfeld worked for well over 20 years at WisDOT as a civil engineer, project development supervisor, and statewide consultant engineer. She has provided team leadership on the design and construction phases of urban, rural, freeway, and bridge projects and has worked with municipalities on funding, maintenance responsibilities, and project concerns. Schoenfeld has provided construction oversight on federally funded, locally sponsored road and bridge replacement projects that were completed through the local bridge, STP Urban, STP Rural, multimodal, and economic development programs.

Schoenfeld is responsible for the effective management of all projects completed by our Waukesha transportation group, as well as oversight of the group’s project managers. She is also responsible for implementing quality control and monitoring client satisfaction.

“Brenda and I started with Ayres on the same day back in 1995,” says Eric Sorensen, PE, vice president. “She is certainly not the first person to leave Ayres and then find her way back. We’re fortunate to have Brenda return, bringing her outstanding WisDOT on-system and local project experience to our Waukesha transportation group, where she will surely grow our staff and our opportunities to serve our public and private clients.”

Schoenfeld is a registered professional engineer in Wisconsin and holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
