The Bellevue Toll Bridge, an 11-span structure that carries Nebraska Highway 370 over the Missouri River in Bellevue required routine, fracture critical, and underwater inspections in 2017. As a subconsultant to InfraStructure, LLC, Ayres Associates was selected to assist with the routine and fracture critical inspection and complete the underwater inspection. In 2015 Ayres Associates completed the routine and fracture critical inspections on this bridge. In 2017 Ayres Associates provided a climbing team for the routine and fracture critical inspection of the main spans (Spans 5 and 6) and a diving team for the underwater inspection. Ayres provided Infrastructure LLC field notes, measurements, photos, and assistance with preparing the inspection reports.
The Bellevue Toll Bridge was constructed in 1952. It carries Highway 370 traffic between Bellevue, Nebraska, and I-29 in Iowa. The structure is a vital route because alternate routes for crossing the Missouri River are at Omaha and Plattsmouth, Nebraska, which are 6 miles upriver and 10 miles downstream, respectively.
The structure consists of 11 spans with a total length of 1,965 feet. The west approach spans consist of four deck truss units, each approximately 150 feet long. The river spans No. 5 and No. 6 consist of a continuous through truss with a total length of approximately 841 feet. The east approach spans consist of two deck trusses, each approximately 150 feet long, and three-span continuous steel girders that are each approximately 70 feet long per span.
