Fort McCoy Creosote Investigation

« Return to Project Search

During replacement of a fire hydrant and water main near a car wash at Fort McCoy, observers noted creosote odors and detected possible groundwater contamination. About 24 tons of soil was removed from the site, and Ayres was retained to conduct follow-up investigations.

Field work included installing eight soil probes to the groundwater table and collecting soil and groundwater samples. Ayres conducted the field work, prepared the site investigation report, provided conclusions and recommendations, and prepared the work plan and health and safety plan.

Ayres prepared a site investigation report to document findings and provided conclusions and recommendations. The report concluded no further investigation is necessary and recommended that the case be closed with a groundwater use restriction.
