The level of safety precaution that Ayres took in conducting this type of inspection made us feel very confident. You could see immediately that the inspectors knew what they were doing – that they had done this before. With that level of expertise and attention to detail, it was obvious we had teamed with the right people.
David Jauregui, New Mexico State University, Regarding Rio Grande Gorge Inspections
Replacing the bridge with a structure meeting current traffic standards drastically improves safety and accessibility at this crossing. Both the design and construction teams did an outstanding job providing a bridge that fits the area well and looks great.
Duane Jorgenson, Director of Public Works, Rock County, WI
What we especially appreciate is that Cory (Thomson) and the Ayres team don’t just document what they find in the field. They take the time to provide recommendations and help the City understand what actions may be needed based on the inspection findings. They have also been very responsive when unexpected needs come up.
Kayla Wasielewski, Civil Engineer II, City of Green Bay Facilities & Bridges Division
Everything Ayres did over the years for the Town of Kossuth has been absolutely outstanding, in particular their quick response after one of our bridges collapsed. I appreciate what their engineers did for Kossuth.
John Hutterer, former Chairman, Town of Kossuth, Manitowoc County
They provide professional services and require minimal oversight. When issues arise, they offer simple and solid advice on how to address them. When asked to take on additional work, they step up to the plate and deliver.
Richard King, Oregon Department of Transportation Local Agency Bridge Inspection Engineer
Bridge scour is a phenomenon by which high-velocity water removes streambed material from around a bridge’s foundations, creating holes in the river bottom that erode support and, in varying degrees, compromise the integrity of the entire structure. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) requires U.S. bridges to be inspected above water every two years and below water every five years at a minimum. Those showing evidence of scour need to be inspected more frequently, both above and below water, until repaired, replaced, or re-evaluated. Ayres is a recognized leader in bridge scour evaluations, having assisted the FHWA and the National Highway Institute (NHI) in developing and teaching three ongoing scour training courses, including NHI's Stream Stability and Scour at Highway Bridges for Bridge Inspectors (course 135047). Ayres has provided field evaluations and development of scour evaluation reports for more than 1,500 bridges in numerous Florida DOT districts and was instrumental in assisting FDOT in conducting its scour evaluation program. Ayres has evaluated scour in Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, New York, South Carolina, and Georgia, as well as throughout the Midwest and West.
Whether ravaged by floods or struck by trucks or barges, bridges need immediate inspection when their condition is suddenly in doubt. Ayres has this experience, as its inspection teams have sprung into action in a variety of circumstances, mobilizing crews within minutes to sites throughout the United States.
