As part of a statewide traffic engineering master contract, Ayres conducted traffic speed and safety studies on nine roadways in the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s Southwest Region. This included one road in Lafayette County, three in Columbia County, one in Dane County, one in Green County, two in Jefferson County, and one in Iowa County.
Ayres staff conducted 27 spot speed studies at the various highway segments, collecting at least 200 individual speed readings (100 in each direction) of vehicles at each site. Staff members then performed crash analyses for each site. This involved reviewing the reported crash data for each highway segment, summarizing the data, identifying spot crash problem locations and associated causes, and identifying crash trend lines. A technical memorandum was prepared for each segment that included recommendations for the appropriate speed limit to be posted for the segment and any crash reduction recommendations, as appropriate.
