Wisconsin DOT Statewide Traffic Data Collection

« Return to Project Search

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation awarded Ayres a statewide master contract for traffic data collection in 2018. These counts were completed by field staff performing manual counts and using video data collection cameras that recorded vehicle and pedestrian traffic movements, with automated processing of the video images to produce a traffic count.

The work orders included a collection of short-term traffic volumes in Brown, Kewaunee, and Door Counties. Counts collected included portable machine counts lasting 48 hours to collect vehicle volume and axle classification data on two- and four-lane highways and portable Wavetronix Smart Sensor radar detection counts to collect vehicle volume and axle classification data on interstates and other high-speed, expressway, and arterial roadways with four or more lanes.

Manual turning movement and daily traffic volume counts were collected in northwestern Wisconsin, including seven-day volume counts in Chippewa, Washburn, and Dunn Counties. Turning movement counts were collected at intersections in Barron, Buffalo, Dunn, Polk, Trempealeau, Sawyer, and Eau Claire Counties.
