Royal Credit Union retained Ayres to provide design and construction administration services for a new 9,000-square-foot branch office in Menomonie, Wisconsin. Significant design features include extensive use of natural daylighting and geothermal heat pumps for improved energy efficiency.
The design included two significant challenges. First, the western one-third of the site consisted of wetlands, which restricted the size and location of the building and parking lots and required extensive consultation with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Second, the site soils provided poor drainage with a high water table, which required subsurface drainage below paved areas.
The dramatic interior is the result of close collaboration between Ayres and RCU’s interior designer. The interior designer developed conceptual sketches for the interior and made material selections. Ayres then developed the necessary construction details and prepared construction drawings that faithfully followed the original design concepts.
