The congregation of Peace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire saw a need for updating their worship facility and retained Ayres for a space needs study and subsequently to design additions to and remodeling of the existing building. Ayres’ architectural staff consulted with many members of the Church community throughout the space needs study, master planning, and design phases of the project.
The additions included a gathering space, multi-purpose room, adult/multi-use space, kitchen, office, and classroom space. Restrooms, child care area, and youth and recreation space were remodeled. Parking was expanded on the site, and a new bell tower was set. The worship space was designed to accommodate a variety of worship styles, with space for a band or drama group for contemporary worship, proper acoustics and lighting, the ability to reduce daylighting for drama performances, and seating that is flexible and less formal.
Through attentive listening and careful questioning, Ayres enabled a consensus view to emerge for an innovative building design that addressed overlapping needs and accommodated projected growth within the congregation.
