Muddy Creek Stream Stability Management Plan

« Return to Project Search

The Colorado River District (CRD) owns and operates Wolford Mountain Reservoir on Muddy Creek near Kremmling, Colorado. The CRD has created wetland mitigation areas and related irrigation features on approximately 4 miles of Muddy Creek downstream of the reservoir. Lateral migration of the creek has eroded banks and threatened mitigation area irrigation features and landscapes.

The CRD retained Ayres to begin development of a stream stability management plan for Muddy Creek through the mitigation area. The final plan identifies stream form maintenance objectives (such as protection of infrastructure and prevention of wetland loss due to meander cut-off) and provides a prioritized maintenance action plan that can be implemented over multiple years.

The final plan also includes a location-by-location list of recommended channel improvements or modifications as well as reconnaissance-level cost estimates suitable for budgeting. Out of these locations, Ayres has designed improvements for seven sites and helped oversee construction at six of them.
