The City of Neenah, Wisconsin, wanted to keep motorists from enduring long waits and risky turns between Tullar Road and Breezewood Lane throughout the day.
Traffic from Neenah High School made up much of the gridlock during the busiest times. A fire station at the intersection and a nearby City garage contributed to the intersection’s complications. Commuters living and working in the area added to the challenge of what type of intersection would best meet the City’s needs.
Ayres Associates’ solution for the City was a modern roundabout, and City officials and residents have found the roundabout a welcome addition. Besides the roundabout, the project involved designing a half-mile section of Breezewood Lane. The project included two 11-foot travel lanes, a 16-foot two-way left-turn lane, and bike lanes on each side of the roadway. |
