With the goal of creating a homelike environment for northwestern Wisconsin’s veterans and their families, this 72-bed, 83,342-square-foot skilled nursing facility features smaller households and neighborhoods, private rooms, fresh-cooked meals, and a variety of indoor and outdoor amenities.
Our team provided architecture; interior design; and furniture, fixtures, and equipment selection. In addition to serving residents, the clinic and the facility’s many multi-purpose spaces also serve veterans who live in surrounding communities.
As the first Department of Veterans Affairs facility in the region, the client wanted the building to incorporate materials and images that reflect northern Wisconsin, as well as residents’ common military experience. The interior design team sourced local images through the Chamber of Commerce and historical society and gathered military photos through the VA to create customized wall montages, artwork, and displays. These design elements generate a sense of connection and appreciation and provide conversation starters among the staff and veteran residents.
Per state guidelines, the home was designed to meet the equivalent of a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver Certified building.
