Iron County retained Ayres Associates to replace a failed culvert pipe on CTH E at Alder Creek that caused significant flooding and led to a section of the highway washing out. Ayres Associates’ emergency design replaced the culvert pipe with a single-span concrete flat slab bridge. Minor approach work was also completed at this site. A nearly $11,000 Federal Emergency Management Agency grant helped fund the project. Ayres Associates staff worked aggressively to ensure that construction could begin quickly and be complete before the annual Paavo Nurmi Marathon that included CTH E on its course.
