Goffinsville Park Design

« Return to Project Search

Goffinsville Park is a 19.7-acre recreational area on the north shore of the Nassau River in Nassau County, designed by Ayres Associates. The project included a hydraulic study/shoreline stabilization report to determine the type of shoreline stabilization required, along with the design of a fishing pier, a boat ramp with floating dock and accessible gangway, nature trails, covered picnic areas, a playground, and restroom/vendor facilities.

Ayres also designed the water supply/treatment and wastewater septic tank disposal systems for the park. The project is along the Nassau River, an Outstanding Florida Water and aquatic preserve. Permitting was challenging, requiring close coordination with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the St. Johns River Water Management District, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Nassau County, and grant programs.

Key features of this project included design of a concrete bulkhead for shoreline stabilization, a 152-foot wooden fishing pier adjacent to Santa Juana Creek, a kayak/canoe floating dock launch, a playground with poured-in-place fall zone protection, picnic shelters, an asphalt entrance and parking area, and a 0.5-mile walking trail with plaques and signage indicating historical locations.

This project received the 2010 Statewide Project of the Year Award for Environmental/Structures from the American Public Works Association.
