Advanced Disposal Landfill Sites Mapping

« Return to Project Search

Ayres conducted flights in spring 2013 to collect aerial imagery for 21 active landfill sites operated by Advanced Disposal Services. The sites are in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Missouri, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, and Pennsylvania. The aerial imagery was used to create 6-inch orthophotography and 2-foot topographic contours of the active landfill sites.

The digital mapping is used for volume estimation at each site, which is critical for operational budgeting and planning. The surface model of the waste at each landfill can be analyzed by engineers in CAD software and compared with the prior year’s model to calculate each landfill’s remaining capacity and the rate at which it is filling up. That allows facility operators to plan years in advance so they can bring additional landfill space online before it is needed.
