Adam Derringer, a project manager in Ayres Associates’ aerial mapping group, was recently elected chairman of the 12-member Wisconsin Land Information Council. He will serve a one-year term as chairman of the Council, which advises the state Department of Administration on matters relating to land information, including allocation of grant funds, guidelines to coordinate land records modernization, data standards, legislative changes, and obtaining new funding sources.
Derringer – who has consulted worldwide on GIS department best practices and workflows – has been involved with the Council since its 2015 origins and previously served as the organization’s vice chair. In his new role, he will set meeting agendas, facilitate Council meetings, and serve as the Council’s representative to the public.

Derringer has been involved in land information in Wisconsin for more than 15 years, serving as a past president of the Wisconsin Land Information Association and sitting on various technical committees. He’s held a seat on the Advisory Committee to the State Cartographer’s Office since 2012 and has been an Esri Wisconsin User Group board member since 2007.

Derringer says he welcomes the responsibilities associated with his role as Wisconsin Land Information Council chair and the opportunities the state has to move the geospatial community forward, particularly in relation to critical geospatial undertakings such as data standards, a data repository, and preparing for NextGen 911.

“There are a lot of exciting endeavors going on right now, and grant administrators need advice from the community to make sure the available funding is being used wisely and strategically,” Derringer said. “There’s a lot going on in our industry, and I’m excited to help lead that.”
