Qualified candidates will have a
bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a major emphasis in
transportation/traffic engineering and 0 – 3 years experience.
Preference will be given to candidates with course work and/or
experience related to traffic impact analyses; traffic operation
analyses and modeling; traffic signal warrant studies; signal
timing and phasing optimizations; alternative analyses; conceptual
geometric designs; signing and pavement markings; MUTCD
compliance; and traffic engineering standards. Knowledge of FHWA
and WisDOT design and traffic operations standards beneficial.
Preference will also be given to candidates with experience using
a number of traffic engineering software programs and/or masters
degree(s) and those
candidates possessing an Engineer Intern (EI) or
Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate. Valid
driver’s license with good driving record required.
This current project assignment
will be in the WisDOT Bureau of Traffic Operations, Hill Farms
office in Madison, WI. The qualified candidate must be
self-motivated with the ability to complete projects with limited
or infrequent guidance.
Assists with the following: oversized overweight (OSOW) routing
and permitting support for DOT, evaluation of traffic issues on
transportation projects, including signals, signs, pavement
markings, and the geometric design of roads and related tasks;
conducting traffic counts and surveys for existing traffic
conditions and problems; analyzing data; studying traffic
engineering problems; developing plans for improvements; observing
markings and other traffic control devices; and designing plans
for safe control and flow of traffic.
