OSP Telephone Engineer #1703

Qualifications required:  

  • Work experience of a minimum five years engineering experience in either network engineering/planning or OSP engineering/planning
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field and/or equivalent a plus
  • Knowledge of the telecommunications industry, activities of OSP engineering design, engineering mathematics, OSP engineering and communications system analysis, design and equipment applications and related areas of OSP engineering
  • Knowledge of CAD OSP layouts and systems, BSTCAD, Microstation and/or AutoCAD, LFACS and associated software
  • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills with the ability to conduct effective client meetings
  • Knowledge of telephone locating
  • Ability to work effectively independently and with other team members in multiple offices
  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal rules and regulations related to telecommunications projects
  • Must have knowledge of AT&T and CenturyLink OSP technical practices and regional procedures, knowledge of Frontier practices a plus
  • Good problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Strong computer skills including MSOffice suite
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record
  • Working knowledge of FDOT/WisDOT roadway projects and design requirements for relocation of telephone facilities a plus. Knowledge should include FDOT/WisDOT plan reading proficiencies, creation of relocation mark-ups, utility work schedules and conflict matrix.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide design engineering, construction and administration support for copper, coaxial and optical fiber systems
  • Design and prepare detailed construction plans for developments, road relocation, and other infrastructure
  • Assist in developing cost-effective telecom solutions that meet or exceed business requirements
  • Actively follow new trends and emerging telecom technologies
  • Maintain required documentation and apply for all required permits
  • Complete and manage required permits and documents necessary for pole attachments, buried work, easements and ROW
  • Review and/or prepare engineering records, reports, drawing, documents, etc.
