Director of Human Resources #1741

Wipfli LLP is assisting our client, Ayres Associates, a national engineering/architectural firm headquartered in Eau Claire, WI, with the recruitment and selection of an HR Director (due to an impending retirement). This position is on the Leadership Team and is instrumental in planning, developing, implementing, and coordinating the broad-spectrum of HR functions across 5 states, 12 offices, 300+ employees, with management responsibility for 4.5 FTEs in HR.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Works closely with the Leadership Team to set the strategic course and direction of the human resource function
  • Develops and manages the recruitment-selection process
  • Ensures that the Company’s Equal Opportunity Employment programs are effectively administered and achieve diversity goals
  • Provides for the efficient and effective administration of a wide spectrum of employee benefit plans (including ESOP administration)
  • Assists managers and employees with assessment and resolution of employee relations, employee performance and/or work behavior issues
  • Develops and directs the Company’s compensation policies
  • Develops and administers performance management techniques and systems
  • Analyzes training needs – develops, coordinates, and/or conducts training programs to address those needs
  • Provides oversight of Safety Committee and worker’s comp administration
  • Provides for investigation and resolution of workplace complaints
  • Reviews and makes recommendations for improvement of HR policies, procedures, and practices
  • Involves travel from Eau Claire, WI to other offices
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in HR Management or a related field (or equivalent)
  • Advanced degree and/or PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP designation is preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible HR experience, preferably in a professional services and/or engineering-related environment, and at least 3 years in management
  • Must demonstrate excellent verbal communications and superb employee relations, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills
  • Requires proficiency in business thinking and change management
  • Strategic planning experience is highly desirable
  • Successful track record of management/supervision of staff
  • Proficient in HRIS, online benefit administration, Microsoft Office-Excel-Outlook
