Benefits Specialist #1757


Bachelor’s degree in a human resources related field and five years of experience in employee benefits required. The qualified candidate will be detail oriented with good organizational skills and excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficiency in MSWord, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as math and analytical skills essential. Ability to communicate comfortably one on one and to small or large groups and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality required.


  • Performs a variety of Human Resources related functions with an emphasis on benefits. Administers employee benefit programs including health, dental and vision plans, wellness plan, flexible spending plan, short and long-term disability, family and medical leave, group life insurance, paid time off, 401(k) and Savings Plan and other plans as directed.
  • Works with the Director of Human Resources and insurance administrators on preparing and executing documentation such as plan documents, summary plan descriptions, administrative agreements, and insurance policies. Works with Director of Human Resources (Privacy Officer) to oversee compliance with the privacy standards of HIPAA. Complies with ERISA by preparing and distributing Summary Annual Reports for benefit plans. Prepares annual benefit statements for all employees.
  • Provides guidance to employees in understanding their employee benefit plans to ensure quick, equitable, and courteous resolution. Resolves administrative problems with the insurance administrators and representatives.
  • Evaluates, analyzes, and compares existing company benefits with those of other employers to maintain the company’s competitive position in the labor market, including the solicitation of quotes. Implements approved new plans and changes by preparing announcement material, booklets, and other media for communicating new plan information to employees. Presents benefit information, as well as other information, to large groups, by videoconference or one-on-one to employees. Writes benefit articles for the HR website and the Currents newsletter.
  • Responsible for annual employee benefit enrollment. Submits weekly premium adjustments to Accounting. Prepares, calculates, and verifies monthly premium and administrative fee payments for health plan, flexible spending plan, re-insurance, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability benefits.
  • Other duties will consist of assisting the HR team as needed.
