  Wisconsin Waterfront Initiative (May 2008)
If your community has neglected waterfront properties, the Wisconsin Waterfront Initiative (WWI) can help convert them from eyesore to asset.

In August 2007, Governor Doyle announced the WWI as part of a greater economic development plan for the state.

If you missed the planning grant opportunity but are ready with a waterfront property redevelopment plan, submitting the plan to the Department of Commerce will start a WWI plan review process. The process includes a collaboration of state agencies providing you information on and technical assistance with financial tools that might be available to support your project. Wisconsin’s Department of Natural Resources, Historical Society, Department of Transportation, and other agencies will channel appropriate information through the Department of Commerce.

State agencies with funding sources will review the plan to see what programs would best support your project. They will facilitate joint meetings, establish contacts with other agencies, and provide you with peer-to-peer contact to help you gain financial and technical advice from others who have had successful projects.
