Funding Offered for Transportation Enhancement, Bicycle Facilities (June 2010) | ||
| More than $6 million in federal funding is available for 2010 local Transportation Enhancement (TE) projects. The TE program funds 12 categories of eligible activities, ranging from pedestrian and bicycle facilities to landscaping to acquisition of scenic easements to preservation of abandoned railway corridors. These projects are intended to enhance traditional highway facilities and promote multi-modal activities. A project sponsor (local government, state agency, or Indian tribe) must pay for a project and then seek reimbursement for the project from the state. Federal funds provide up to 80% of project costs, and the sponsor must provide at least the other 20%. The Bicycle and Pedestrian Facilities Program (BPFP) shares the application, review, and selection process with the TE program. The BPFP funds projects that construct or plan for bicycle or bicycle/pedestrian facilities. The 2009-11 state budget added $2.5 million in state funding per year to the $2.72 million available in federal funding. As with the TE program, funding is 80% federal, 20% local. Applications for TE and BPFP funding are due August 2. For more information, contact your Ayres Associates project manager. Details are also available online at http://www.dot.wisconsin.gov/localgov/aid/te.htm. |
