Provides funding to assist communities along the Great Lakes or Mississippi River to maintain and improve waterborne commerce. Eligible projects include dock reconstruction, mooring structure replacement, dredging, and the construction of facilities to hold dredged materials.
 
April 15   Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Urban Nonpoint Source and Storm Water Grants
Planning grants (up to 70% grant; maximum of $85,000 per grant) fund stormwater management planning, ordinance development, and public education. Construction grants (up to 50% grant; maximum of $200,000 per grant) fund detention ponds, infiltration areas, shoreline stabilization projects, and land acquisition and permanent easement costs.
 
April 30   Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Safe Drinking Water Loan Program
Low-interest loans to modify public water systems. (Note: Typically Intent to Apply and Priority Evaluation Ranking Form must be submitted before applying for loan; submittals are due December 31 of preceding year.)
 
May 1   Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Stewardship Local Assistance Grant Program, 50% grant
Funds nature-based outdoor recreation facilities and trails, including land acquisition, new projects, and renovation projects. Requires an adopted Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan.
 
May 1   Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Federal Recreation Trails Grant Program, up to 50% grant
Funds active outdoor recreation activities and development and maintenance of recreational trails and trail-related facilities (motorized and non-motorized uses). Requires an up-to-date adopted Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan.

Funds river and natural river ecosystem protection and improvements, including planning, land acquisition, education, and design activities.

Quarterly funds available. Funding for feasibility studies and capital improvements that will provide safe recreational boating facilities. Eligible projects include ramps, bulkheads, dredging, feasibility studies, equipment, and support infrastructure (parking lots).
 
July 9   Wisconsin Department of Transportation Safe Routes To School grants, 100% funding
Grants help communities promote walking and bicycling to school. Projects costing $25,000 or more that involve construction are eligible, as are non-construction projects costing $10,000 or more.

Funding to develop urban forestry plans, ordinances, training, and public awareness programs.

Funding for Phase 1 and 2 site assessments, removal of underground storage tanks, demolition, and asbestos abatement.
